Robert Cartmell has a background as a former solicitor (1996-2020) and business owner. His primary work is advising as a consultant for families in matters of their estate planning, wills and (particularly) trusts. As such, he has extensive experience of the ‘estate planning’ process and in administration of estates and more recently of the Trust Management process. He has acted for not only families of wealth, and those with businesses, but also people and families with very little in terms of assets, as well as families with specific needs or issues, and has acted as trustee for vulnerable individuals and in complex estates.
Robert’s passion for Trust work is brought about from the vision that sees the need for everyone will probably have a need to understand the uses and merits of Trusts alongside Wills and gift-making. The challenge he has set himself is to educate people from all backgrounds as to the options for effective estate planning through the use of Trusts and other vehicles and to allow them the opportunity of establishing Trusts where there is a need to do so, whatever the value of the estate.
Robert has seen the ups and downs of growing and managing a law firm and the ups and downs of pursuing a vision and mission. Those experiences serve to provide valuable insight and experience and to help advise from the voice of experience in many trusted roles for families as well as his consultancy for members of his former profession.
Robert wishes to help his clients for the longer term rather than one transaction. It is important to understand you and your wishes and for you to understand the advice and options available for you – ie the solutions. Robert will take the time with you to gain a full understanding of your personal, family, financial circumstances and requirements both now and in the future as well as events and matters on which you are likely to require professional help and assistance.
Robert lives with his wife Claire and his sons Nathan and Daniel in Buckinghamshire where has lived for the majority of his life. He splits his time between his existing clients in the Home Counties and the London environment as founder-director of ProTrust Consulting. He is a lover of many sports, and has represented his county at badminton and bowls and is a keen member of Ellesborough Golf Club in the Chilterns. He is a follower of Brentford Football Club through the years of downs and (more recently) ups!
